Program Overview

To distinguish the need and appropriateness of active and passive immunization in disease states with both immune globulin and vaccine/toxoid availability.

Presentation

The program can be completed by viewing the PowerPoint® slide show (using Microsoft® PowerPoint® 97 or later), answering the post-test questions and completing the program evaluation on line. Statements of credit can be printed after successful completion of the program.

    All Registered Pharmacists.
    This program is not accredited for Pharmacy Technicians.

  • Learning Objectives

    After participating in this program, the pharmacist should be able to:

    • Differentiate events and exposures that require post exposure prophylaxis from those that do not.
    • Summarize the characteristics and qualities of active and passive immunization.
    • Evaluate the need for the administration of passive immunity.
    • Given a patient case, determine appropriate post exposure prophylaxis therapy.

Program Support

Initially presented during the 2004 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Orlando, this course has been developed through the Northeastern University Bouve College of Health Sciences School of Pharmacy. It is supported by a grant from Talecris Biotherapeutics, in conjunction with ASD Healthcare.

There is no fee for this program.

Continuing Education Accreditation Information

Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences School of Pharmacy is approved by the Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Pharmacists successfully participating in this program will receive a statement of credit for one contact hour (0.1 CEU). Statements of Credit may be printed on-line after successful completion of the learning assessment (70%).
